Gloucestershire Pyners

Newent Pyners

John Pyner, 1776-1781

John Pyner was a haulier and was born between 1776 and 1781.  His wife was Ann - who was five years younger than John, and they were both born in Gloucestershire, and lived in Newent, Gloucestershire, in 1841.  They had two children, William who was born in 1824 in Gloucestershire, and John who was a year younger, and both may have been born in Newent.  I believe that they also a daughter called Hester who died of consumption, (tuberculosis), in 1839, on the 13th of February, at the age of 21.

Huntley Pyners

Edward Pyner, 1776 to 1781

He lived on his own and worked as an agricultural labourer in the village.

Thomas Pyner, 1796-1801

Thomas, who was born 1796 to 1801 in Taynton, Gloucestershire, worked as an agricultural labourer and his wife was called Elizabeth.  She was born about ten years after Thomas in Tibberton, Gloucestershire which was very close to Taynton.  They had three children living with them when the 1841 census was taken - Samuel aged 5, Thomas who was 2, and Mary aged 1.

In 1851 they were living at Solomon's, (possibly near Solomon's Tump), and had several more children.  Samuel was not living with them but they had a daughter called Elizabeth Sarah who must have been born at the same time as the missing Samuel, and she was assisting her mother at home.  Thomas was still at home and working as a labourer, Mary was at school, and the additions to the family were - Selena in 1843, Ann in 1856 and Sarah who was 5 months old.

Samuel had moved to Tibberton by 1851 and was a farm labourer and lived with Samuel Hewitt, his grandfather.  Ten years later he was living in Gloucester, at 65 Westgate Street, and was a 'drainor'.  He was still unmarried.
