Descendants of William Pyner
Generation 1
William may have been born in Little Birch, Herefordshire and baptised in
1763 at the age of ten. If so then he is the son of John and Sarah Pyner,
and has siblings John and Mary. He married Elizabeth Prichard, (by
licence), on the 18th January 1795 in Much Birch, very close to Little
Birch, and the wedding was witnessed by William Vaughan and Richard Minton.
The couple had six children, the first two being born in Little Birch and
they were Joseph and William, and then the other four were all born in
Kilpeck, Herefordshire - and their names were Harriet, John, Mary and
James.
William was buried in Kilpeck on the 5th June 1825 and Elizabeth on the 22nd
May 1827.
Generation 2
His story is on the page with the other Monmouth ancestors.
His story is on the page with the other Brecon relatives.
She was baptised on the 4th April 1802 in
Kilpeck and she had an
illegitimate daughter called Elizabeth who was baptised in Kilpeck on the
10th July 1823. Three years later she married John Butcher, (who probably
came from Ewyas Harold), in Kilpeck on the 30th May 1825. One of the
witnesses was Harriet's brother William. They had three children who were
Ann in 1825, Joseph in 1828 and Lucy in 1832. Harriet died before 1841.
John was baptised in Kilpeck church on the 7th July 1805. He became an
agricultural labourer and was living by himself in 1841 at Old House,
Marlas, Kilpeck. Some time after that he fell on hard times and move to
Much Dewchurch to live with
his brother James and sister Mary by 1851, when he was described as a pauper
agricultural labourer, so was probably living on out-relief provided by the
Board of Guardians. He probably died before 1861.
Mary was the second daughter of William and Elizabeth and was baptised in
Kilpeck on the 25th September 1808. She had two illegitimate children, the
first called George in 1830 when she lived at Little Hill, Orcop, and then
James in 1836 when her address was given as Orcop Hill and her occupation as
servant. She then moved to Bishopstone as 1841 saw her living with her
brother-in-law John Butcher, although there is no mention of her two sons.
The 1851 census shows her in
Much Dewchurch living with brother James and working as a washerwoman.
There are also two children living in the house who are shown as nephews of
James and may be illegitimate children of Mary. They are Emma who was nine,
and Adam who was aged six and died in 1875 at the age of 30.
Mary moved to Orcop with James and Adam by 1851 and died on the 19th October
1870 from gastric fever. She was a domestic servant again and brother James
registered the death two dies after she died.
He was baptised in Kilpeck on the 8th December 1811 and probably moved to
Much Dewchurch after his mother died in 1827. Like the rest of his family
he became an agricultural labourer and was living at Butters Gate,
Much Dewchurch
in 1841. He had moved again by the time the 1851 census was taken, but to
another cottage in Much Dewchurch, and there he lived with his older
siblings Mary and John, and a niece called Emma and a nephew called Adam.
During the next ten years he moved to Orcop, another little village in the
vicinity of
Kilpeck and
Much Dewchurch, and was accompanied by sister Mary and nephew Adam.
When the 1871 census was taken he and Adam were living at Little Hill,
Orcop, although Adam's name was recorded as Abraham! James died from
bronchitis the following year, on the 24th December 1871, and the death was
registered by Abraham Poiner on Boxing Day. Adam or Abraham died four years
later.
